New Pokemon Movie 'I Choose You!': See Ash and Pikachu's Journey Once More

A new Pokemon movie is scheduled for release in Japan in 2017. Ash, Pikachu, and Ho-oh will appear in Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You which is scheduled for release in July 2017 in Japan.

According to AnimeNewsNetwork, Oha Suta (Good Morning Star), a children's variety show in Japan, announced that a new Pokemon film titled "Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You" is in the works. They also featured a teaser poster of the said Pokemon movie, along with a teaser trailer video. Despite the series being already in their seventh generation with the anime of Pokemon Sun and Moon, Pokemon decided to go back to where the journey started.

In the trailer video, Ash can be seen putting on his hat while grabbing a Pokeball from the table. It may be Pikachu's Pokeball, seeing that everyone is familiar that Ash started his Pokemon journey with Pikachu. Ash is also seen wearing his outfit from the first season of the Pokemon anime. This movie may hint that Pokemon will go back to its roots and start again with Ash's adventures back in the Kanto region. As for the poster, people can see Ash and Pikachu looking over Ho-oh as it flies above their heads. This is an iconic scene for the Pokemon franchise since it was Ho-oh that Ash saw back in the day when he started his journey to become a Pokemon Master.

The film will pay homage to the roots of the Pokemon anime, so it's normal to feature the iconic scene of Ash seeing a legendary Pokemon for the first time. The film also mirrors the name of the title of the first episode of the anime back in 1997 titled "Pokemon: I Choose You!" This film may also serve as a tribute to the 20th anniversary of the franchise.

Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You, will serve as the twentieth movie of the franchise. The latest Pokemon movie, "Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel" debuted this year in both Japan and North America. Its English dub was released on December 5 on Disney XD in the United States.
