Just three days post Christmas, Alyssa Bailey came as a year-end gift to her parents with something extraordinary---a rare, toothy smile. She was born with two bottom front teeth.

The team of doctors and nurses around her were astounded, said the mother, Jaklina Bailey, according to abcnews.com.

"Right when she first arrived, everybody was just shocked," the mother in Branson, Missouri, where the baby was born. "Just like, 'She has two front teeth? No kidding? Really?' It was just a big talk about it, you know, in the delivery room."

'They were kind of like "what's going on? Can I just see? Let me see",' Mrs Bailey said. The doctor exclaimed that in her 25-year career this is the second time she's ever seen it, explained the mother, according to dailymail.

Dr. Laura Corio, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City said that it is not as unusual as is thought. "Teeth can be present in oral cavities at birth and may be related to certain other health problems but not always," Corio explained.

In fact, one in every 2,000 to 3,000 babies is with teeth, according to the National Institutes of Health. The teeth are present on the lower gums but sometimes you see some with a mouthful of them too.

The doctor will be compelled to remove the teeth or at least "shave down the natal teeth" as quickly as possible to avoid problems with nursing and avoid the baby biting its tongue, said Corio. Natal teeth do not have root structure, which would make them "wobbly" and show a "choking hazard" to babies if they fall out.

Alyssa's mother said that they will keep an eye on her teeth to check that the tiny chompers don't get loose and choke her. However, they are extra set, so when they fall out, her usual teeth will grow in as expected, said the doctors.
