AMD Zen is close to hitting the market. However, before it is even released, it changed its name. Read more to know the details of the new processor that will surely be a close competitor against Intel.

New Everyday previously reported that Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (AMD) will be hosting an event called "New Horizon" to give the public a glimpse of their new processor, the anticipated AMD Zen. In the said event, the CPU is introduced in another name.

According to Ars Technica, the AMD Zen CPU is now called Ryzen. AMD also shared a glimpse of the CPU's solid specs and core. Aside from sharing its new name more specs and features about the powerful processor is revealed.

The Country Caller reported that AMD Zen a.k.a Ryzen is equipped with eight cores and two threads per cores, giving it a total of 16 threads. It sports a base clock of 3.4 GHz, which is not as speedy as Intel's quad-core but reports have it that Ryzen can go beyond the said frequency.

Ryzen features the new Extended Frequency Range (XFR) that allows the processor to detect thermal headroom and adjust the frequency above the ordinary Precision Boost limit. AMD Zen's clock varies between air cooling, water cooling and LN2 cooling.

XFR is an automated feature that lets every user enjoy the said benefits without any user configuration. Anyone who doesn't possess overclocking knowledge will be awed with this feature.

Even before AMD's Ryzen is made available, many believe that it will challenge Intel, especially when it comes to pricing. Per PC World there are rumors that the 8-core AMD Zen chip will be available for only $300. Some sources claim that it will be $500.

Will Intel cut the price of its 8-core CPU that is currently priced at $1,100 to compete with Ryzen's low-cost? Things will be tight for Intel as AMD is also developing a quad-core chip to compete Intel's $340 Core i7-6700K. However, AMD's is much cheaper at only $150.

How much do you think will AMD Zen be? Will Ryzen excel Intel? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
