Google Leads In Purchased Renewable Energy: What Benefits Does It Bring To Them And The Environment?

Google made an outstanding effort in saving the environment and amount of energy by using renewable energy. All of Google's offices and data center are using purchased renewable energy since 2010.

The company is now an empire using 5.2 terawatt hours, equivalent to power 500,000 homes in a report in 2015. The energy consumption the company used reaches to 44% coming from purchased Renewable Energy with the use of both winds and solar powers.

Consisting of 13 large data center with a large number of computers and other electronic devices used in the operation, Google intends to purchase renewable energy from programs that the company funded. "We're focusing on creating new energy from renewable sources, so we only buy from projects that are funded by our purchases," said Urs Hölzle.

Other Big Corporation Using Renewable Energy

"The growth was spectacular and took everybody by surprise," said Herev Touati, the managing Director of Rocky Mountain Institute. Aside from Google being the largest company that purchased renewable energy, there are other major corporations that do the same.

Ikea made a $680 Million investment adding solar panels and wind power system across the globe and targets to finish the project within the next five years. In Virginia, the largest energy farm funded by Amazon that can produce 80-Megawatt renewable energy.

Cisco System will purchase renewable energy from the 153-acre energy farm. The company intends to make this a 20 years deal and shall employ at least 200 people. Previously committed $15 Billion, Berkshire Hathaway is adding $30 Billion investment in renewable energy in three states.

This initiative originally started when Facebook and Microsoft backed the plan of renewable energy use. Not only it can save the environment but it also saves the company revenues in the future. Other corporations are on the move to purchase renewable energy, and they are making agreements with producers today.
