"Battlefield 1" DLC, Giant's Shadow, is all set for release on December 20 and EA DICE is gearing up for the same. It is reported that the DLC includes a map and a grenade crossbow weapon. All the final details related to the release of "Battlefield 1" are now revealed. The DLC that is to be released is absolutely free. However, players who have purchased the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass will get a week of early access on December 13.

Giant's Shadow is the first major content release for "Battlefield 1" after it was launched. It is currently the only free DLC that has been announced. It is reported that the DLC includes a single map and hence the name Giant's Shadow is most appropriate for the same. A brand new weapon, the Grenade Crossbow, is included for Support classes. We can safely say that the map is the only substantial addition to the DLC. The first premium expansion of the game will not arrive until about March 2017. However, this release comes as a welcome change for the players for the holiday season especially who have been experiencing the game since October, reported Game Rant.

A sneak peek into the update reveals that the Giant's Shadow map focuses on the Battle of Selle. This is the battle that occurred in the Hundred Days Offensive of the West pushing Germany out of France to conclude the war. The map on "Battlefield 1" will primarily focus on an area in the shadow of a giant downed blimp. The update will also introduce a powerful armed train to make the map more dynamic. As a recap of the historic battle, it combined forces from Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom and ultimately pushed German forces back. The "Battlefield 1" players should be able to pull off this stunt, reported Game Spot.

The trailer for "Battlefield 1" showcases the new map as well as the new Grenade Crossbow. The trailer shows almost all the different environments that players will be battling through. It shows a township on the banks of the Selle River, a train depot with strategically placed abandoned train-cars, and up into the skeleton of the downed dirigible itself.

According to EA DICE, while British forces have pushed through the Hindenburg line and are inches away from taking a strategic railway center and the outcome is uncertain. "An armored train can still turn the tide." Should German players hold out and manage to bring the armored train in, it'll be exciting to see how it immediately changes the battle.

"Battlefield 1" is available for all players on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The free Giant's Shadow DLC will be available for Premium Pass owners and certain pre-orderers on December 13. It will be open to all players on December 20.
