Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale: Movie is set for theatrical release in America with new characters introduced!

Sword Art Online is one of the most popular anime franchise in the west. Because of its popularity, Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale is set to have a theatrical release in North America.

Last Tuesday, Aniplex America has announced that they'll be bringing the latest installment of the popular anime, Sword Art Online. Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale is set for release in North America on March 8. Eleven Arts will be responsible for providing the movie with English subtitles  Aniplex America will also host an event prior to the movie's premiere date in Hollywood, California on March 1, 2017.

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale is an anime-only story set after the events of Mother Rosario arc. The story revolves around a brand new device called Augma, which was created to compete with the famous NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. The Augma can project augmented-reality features for players to experience games. Like how SAO was known for the NerveGear and ALO for the Amusphere, the Augma also has a known game called Ordinal Scale. Asuna and the others have been playing the game for quite some time now but they're about to find out that Ordinal Scale is not an ordinary game.

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will be released worldwide on February 18, 2017, according to Kadokawa. Further news is yet to be revealed on which countries will the movie appear in theaters but the film will be screened in one thousand theaters worldwide. Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will be released alongside the Japanese release on the same date in one hundred fifty theaters in Japan.

Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale will feature a brand new story exclusive for the anime, as well as new characters. Three characters have been released that will appear in the movie. The AR idol Yuna, the swordsman Eiji, and the Augma developer Professor Shigemura will all appear as the new characters in the movie. The cast from the previous Sword Art Online anime will return as well as the composer and singer of the franchise's theme songs.
