Caesar, the leader of the apes played by actor Andy Serkis, said in the ending of the last film of the series Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that war between their species and humankind is most likely to happen. In that film, peace between earth's top two remaining dominant species was strained by the brief yet violent rise in power of Koba, an anti-human advocate and one of the leaders in the community led by Caesar.

"War for the Planet of the Apes" is considered to be the concluding chapter in the blockbuster franchise, is set in San Francisco where Caesar and his apes will be pitted against an army of humans lead by the Colonel, played by veteran Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson. The Colonel and his men are said to plan and attempt to assassinate Caesar which prompts the ape leader and his men to fight back.

The succeeding events will determine the fate of the apes --- and mankind perhaps. "War for the Planet of the Apes" also stars Gabriel Chavarra, Steve Zahn, and Judy Greer.

Matt Reeves, the director, and co-writer of "War for the Planet of the Apes" confirmed via twitter that production is currently ongoing and the release of the film is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2017. Fans of the series are getting pumped up and excited for this upcoming sequel of the rebooted Planet of the Apes series.
