Apple is taking the game a notch higher as the company employs drones to improve its navigation system. This is a brave move for Apple in their wish of catching Google, a longtime leader in Maps services.

At this point, Apple is assembling a team of experts in robotics and data collection. They are said to use drones in capturing and updating map information way faster compared to the usual minivans equipped with camera and sensor. The Cupertino-based company is even looking at the possibilities of developing indoor mapping features in the coming days.

These drones will be flying around your neighborhood to record roads, monitor constructions, and examine street signs. The data gathered by these drones will be sent to a team that is tasked to rapidly update Maps app. Because of this systematized process, users can expect Apple Maps to offer fresh information at all times.

Apple is said to be developing other features for their Map application, including views inside the building. Also, the company is working on improved car navigation. All these will allow Apple to finally catch up with Google.

It should be noted that Apple already released an indoor mapping app which they named Indoor Survey. The said app allows registered business owners to improve indoor positioning through the use of radio frequencies, wi-fi, and sensors like GPS. They also bought the indoor mapping startup, Indoor.io last year and purchased a similar app named WiFiSlam last 2013.

On the other hand, Google is said to be pursuing the same idea. The company is looking at the possibility of providing mapping data inside sports arenas, shopping malls, airports, and a lot more. Whatever's the outcome between the tight competition among Google and Apple, one thing is for sure, and that's the fact that people will truly benefit from the said improved map features.
