Blizzard Entertainment's 'Overwatch' Takes Over The Game Awards 2016

Blizzard Entertainment has been enjoying a fruitful year so far. And even with 2016 ending in just less than a month, the game developer has seen a brighter future with one of its franchise gaining worldwide success. Apparently, their latest video game series, “Overwatch” have dominated The Game Awards 2016.

The Game Awards is a yearly awards ceremony that recognizes and honors the achievements of both individuals and companies in the video game industry. The Game Awards 2016 was held on Dec. 1 at the Microsoft Theater located in Los Angeles, United States. The said awards show bestowed a handful of major awards to notable games that included “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”, “Overwatch”, and even the best-selling mobile game application, “Pokemon GO”.

Apparently, Blizzard Entertainment has taken the most wins at the recent video game awards show. With six nominations, the developer went home with four awards. They won “Game of the Year”, “Best Multiplayer”, and “ESports Game of the Year” with just “Overwatch” alone, which is one of this year’s most widely acclaimed video games. Blizzard bagged the “Best Game Direction” award.

The recent victories have proven that Blizzard Entertainment continues to make immersive online multiplayer games. And after successfully experimenting with “Overwatch” as a first-person shooter game, the game has earned millions of avid gamers worldwide and hold regular competitive seasons. “Overwatch” went against four video games including “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” for the "Game of the Year" award.

This year’s games awards ceremony was truly a memorable one as The Games Awards 2016 has also bestowed the "Industry Icon Award" to Hideo Kojima, who finally got an award after making successful video games such as the “Metal Gear” stealth game series. Going back to Blizzard Entertainment, it has been reported that the developer is planning on a Christmas event for “Overwatch” as possible new modes where hinted when its latest update was released. Blizzard Entertainment has currently kicked off its third season for Competitive Play.
