Just like a perfect thriller, the World Chess Championship 2016 is going to a tiebreaker on Nov.30. Since the 12-game series was drawn at 6-6, it has no other option than a thrilling tiebreaker. All the fans of Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin would be happy with the result considering the young chess wizards meeting again with quick movements.

The World Chess Championship 2016 saw 10 draws and 1 win each by Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin, where Carlsen won the 10th game and Karjakin took the 7th game in his pocket. In the 12th game on Monday, people expected a miracle but ended as a draw after 30 moves in 36 minutes, and World Chess Championship 2016 advanced to tiebreaker games. Interestingly, the 36-minute match is the shortest one in the history of World Chess Championship.

The tiebreaker of World Chess Championship 2016 is in two formats. The initial game is a set of four matches with rapid movements and each player would have 25 minutes in each match to finish their moves. If the initial game format, then it goes for a secondary format, where both Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin would go for 2 blitz matches, which see each player completes their movements in 5 minutes.

This year's game rule states that if that blitz match becomes tied, both Magnus Carlsen and Sergey Karjakin have to go for a sudden death. It is believed that Carlsen has an upper edge over Karjakin in both rapid chess and blitz matches considering his better ranking in both the formats.

The defending champion Magnus Carlsen said the projection as 50-50 and wished Sergey Karjakin for a tight match. The tiebreaker matches at the end of World Chess Championship 2016 is really even touted as the "Armageddon" in chess. It is interesting to see whether this year would see a new champion and the crown goes to Russia or not.
