Disney is a household name, with history spanning over almost a century. And what is more popular than Disney’s princesses, starting from Snow White back in the old days and finishing with this year’s Moana?

Disney’s new movie managed to earn $9.9 million on Thanksgiving Day, according to Forbes. This gives is $25 million income for the last two days. The almost $10 income is a 36 percent drop from the day of the release, where it pars with “The Penguins of Madagascar”, but is a bigger gap than the one achieved by “Tangled”, “Enchanted” or “Frozen”.

It is expected that during the weekend, the cinemas will be swarmed with viewers wanting to watch the new movie, which will mark a five to seven times rise in profits. This same has already happened with “The Good Dinosaur” and “Tangled”. If things go well, there will be a $90 million profit in the first week of the animation’s release. What makes it so successful?

Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) is not a princess, she is the daughter of the chief. That is how the witty character introduces herself, Telegraph UK reports. Nothing more is needed to be heard to know, that this girl has guts and she will follow them to the end of the Universe, or the Sea in this case. After a calamity strikes her home island, she is forced to take a canoe and swim through the sea to find an ancient crystal which will recover the balance of nature. At her help comes a demigod named Maui (Dwayne Johnson) who will fare the seas with her in search of the crystal.

A CNN article praises “Moana” on the cultural aspect of the picture, where in the roles of the protagonists, viewers can hear the voices of people native to the region. Another great cultural aspect of the movie is the familiar wear of the characters and the tribal tattoos on Maui’s body, which have a great impact on the whole adventure.
