It must be a hard and trying time for people in Cuba as their beloved leader passed away on Saturday, November 26th in Santiago de Cuba Province, Cuba. On late night TV, the successor to the presidency, Raul Castro, announced to the people that his brother Fidel Castro was dead. The older Castro died at the age of 90.

Fidel Castro was known by many Americans and non-Cubans as an "evil leader" and the one who initiated Communism in America during the Cold War. According to a news feature by the New York Times, Castro tried to push the world to "the brink of nuclear war."

Castro is the longest reigning president of a country among all other leaders in the world. He was called as Cuba's maximum leader (Maximo Lider) and was tagged as a tyrant and dictator who only knows nothing but war and loves nothing but power.

Real Savior of the Cubans

The rest of the world may call him names but for Cubans who lived there all their lives, Fidel Castro was the best leader one country could ever have. He did not only save Cuba from a heartless dictator when his government started, but Cubans believed that Castro saved them to the ruthlessness of imperialist plunder.

Castro was basically a young, idealistic warfighter when the Cold War erupted. He was nothing in power compared to the US puppet dictator Fulgencio Batista, but he has one thing that made him succeed on his plan to win his fight against these big enemies: sincerity to serve.

He aimed to save Cuba, give it back to the Cubans to enjoy--and he did. Castro defiantly led the war in 1959. And he triumphantly overthrew Batista, leading a struggle to keep Cuba away from the greed of imperialism. It was never easy for them, the US and other capitalist countries still tried to intervene in the new administration but they failed. Castro remained firm in his stance of making Cuba only the best for Cubans.

And as a result, the current Cuba is as developed as they can be without sacrificing their historical aura. Workers' wage are enough to feed their family, there are jobs for the people, a good quality and free education that produced thousands of teachers and doctors, lowest illiteracy rate among many other things they succeed to have when Castro took over.

Most Devastating Death

In a report by Al Jazeera, Cubans were mentioned to be gravely saddened upon knowing that their leader has died, although it didn't come as a surprise to them anymore. They are all aware that Castro has been severely ill for quite a long time already and ever since his illness got him, he was seen lesser and lesser by his people. Even on his last breath, Castro was triumphant as he died only to a natural death than being put down by his longtime opponents.

Though people know his death will come anytime soon, it still struck them as hard as it could. This is an emotional time for Cuba as they lost an unshakable fighter for the poor. Castro's cremated body will be officially put to rest on December 4th after a stretch of mourning for the whole Cuban community.
