'Gilmore Girls' Star Edward Herrmann Passes Away

Edward Herrmann of the 'Gilmore Girls' fame passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31 at a New York hospital, aged 71.

Famous for playing Richard Gilmore on the show, Hermann's family told TMZ that he was battling brain cancer and was hospitalised for more than three weeks.

"Having valiantly braved months of treatment for brain cancer, Edward Herrmann passed peacefully at 8.30 a.m. today at Sloan Kettering hospital in New York City," The Guradian quoted his manager Robbie Kass as saying.

Informing the media about the legendary actor's death, Kass said that Herrmann was an accomplished actor, a scholar and a true gentleman with an incredibly kindness, stated CNN.

He was married twice and is now survived by his second wife and three children.

His son, Rory Herrmann, describes him as someone full of goodness, kindness and knowledge. According to him, "The Lost Boys" star wanted to share the beautiful things in life, reported New York Times.

"My friend Ed Herrmann was the kindest, classiest, most talented man. It was an honor and a joy to know him, a devastating blow to lose him," tweeted "Gilomore Girls" co-star Lauren Graham.

Hermann was born in Washington to John Anthony Herrmann and Jean Eleanor. He began his glamorous career in acting from theatre.

Herrmann was recognised by the world for playing Franklin D Roosevelt in "Eleanor and Franklin" (1976) and "Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years" (1977).

Though the actor was nominated for Emmy Awards several times, he won the recognition in 1999 for his guest appearances on "The Practice".

He also appeared in several movies, such as "The Great Waldo Pepper", "The Paper Chase", "The Great Gatsby", "The Betsy", "Harry's War" and "The Purple Rose of Cairo".
