The "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" director Peter Jackson is set to have another anticipated movie project with the "Mortal Engines". Based on the novel by Philip Reeve, the "Mortal Engines" will premiere this 2018.

Universal Studio recently announced a movie adaptation of the award-winning novel which follows the story of a tragic future in which London is controlled over by Nikola Quercus, a man who introduced engines in the city who aims to empower it to wander the earth looking for resources. Earth has been transformed into a no man's land of sorts, in which a few urban communities resemble London and others battle to keep such cities from going around, taking resources.

Jackson is set to produce the film with his wife and longtime collaborator Fran Walsh. On the other hand, he won't be able to direct the film, yet is serving as a writer alongside Philippa Boyens. The movie also marks the first directorial project of Christian Rivers. "Mortal Engines" will be the first film of the prearranged movie series from Reeve's books, which likewise incorporate "Predator's Gold", "Infernal Devices" and "A Darkling Plain".

With the capacities of Jackson, Boyens and Walsh together, there's a possibility that Universal will have another franchise success with 'Mortal Engines'. There has been worries that entrusting the movie to a freshman director is quite unsafe and risky. However, Jackson has a lot of experience making and sorting out a franchise. The movie still resembles an incredible open door for the skilled producer to amaze the fans once more.

As of now, there's no confirmation yet on whether Jackson and Universal want to adjust the whole series. Nevertheless, "Mortal Engines" is set to debut in cinemas in December 14, 2018.
