"Tomb Raider" movie reboot's new details have surfaced. The film is set for release in 2018 and will star Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.

Producer Graham King explained in an interview with Hey U Guys that the film would focus upon Lara's search for her dad. "This is kind of what we call a back to the roots story," he said. "This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it."

"I think the storytelling is really good and I think we've got the right crew and a great director," he added.

Vikander shared the news about the direction of the movie earlier this year. "They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013," Vikander told HitFix in July. She added that it is more of an origin story. The audience will get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara "hopefully" in an in-depth way.

In March, director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) lauded the 2013 game and said his movie will try to do something similar. The reboot wants to make people relate to Lara as a character. He is also hoping to bring some of his Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise.

The previous two "Tomb Raider" films; 2001's "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and 2003's "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" both starred Angelina Jolie. The first movie remains the highest grossing video game adaptation ever in the US, but the disappointing box office for "The Cradle of Life," combined with Jolie's reluctance to revisit the character, meant that a third film never materialized, according to Game Spot.

The new "Tomb Raider" movie hits theaters on March 16, 2018.
