Creators of the "Sherlock" series finally announced the fourth installment and revealed its release date. However, rumors say that Season 4 will be the show's last.

This detail was not included in the producer's announcement, though. Some reports say that "Sherlock" will only take a long break after Season 4 which is slated to premiere on January 1, 2017, Gack Hollywood reports.

According to "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch, the development of the story which will be laid on the episode of Season 4 will somehow explain the break that the show will take after the season ends. The actor said that there will be so many events and twists that fans will be satisfied in the fourth installment run.

Moriarty, one of the villains in the story, will have a comeback in "Sherlock" Season 4. The show did not change its actor for the role and it will still be Andrew Scott. The season's trailer suggests that the upcoming season will contain a much darker theme than its predecessors.

Some reports also say that "Thor" star Tom Hiddleston will join the roster of the show's cast. He is said to join as Sherlock's brother named as Sherrinford Holmes. However, Cumberbatch was fast to correct the rumors and said that Hiddleston will not appear in "Sherlock" Season 4.

On another news, Actor Rob Brydon has been reported to join the new "Sherlock" movie, as reported by Chortle UK. Brydon will play the role of Inspector Lestrade, the head of Scotland Yard.

Meanwhile, actor Will Ferrell takes on the main character of the movie - Sherlock Holmes. His "Step Brothers" co-star John Reilly is also reported to join as Doctor Watson. The other stars included in the "Sherlock" movie roster are Rebecca Hall (to portray Dr. Grace Hart) and Kelly Macdonald as Sherlock's housekeeper. The new "Sherlock" movie is titled as "Holmes and Watson". It will be written and directed by Etan Cohen.
