With Pokemon Sun and Moon's release, Pokemon fans from all over the world ride the hype of the latest installment of the franchise. It's a common feat by Nintendo to simultaneously release two versions of their Pokemon games with version differences. This always proves to be quite a difficult decision for players who wanted to know what are the version-exclusive Pokemon.

Version-exclusive Pokemons are Pokemon that are only obtainable in one game. It will require a trade with another player who has a different version. This marketing strategy can be traced back to the very first generation of Pokemon Games, Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Green (In Japan) and Pokemon Yellow. Ever since then, it has been the core strategy to entice players to go out and propose a trade with other players in order to complete their Pokedex. Pokemon Sun and Moon are no different from this strategy. Probably the most notable version-exclusive Pokemon for Sun and Moon are the mascots on the cover of the game box, the legendaries Lunala for Moon and Solgaleo for Sun. However, this is not limited only to the legendaries in the game. For Sun and Moon, not only version-exclusive Pokemon can be found but also version-exclusive evolutions.
