Netflix launched the official trailer of Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" original series- a book adaptation by Daniel Handler. Initially aired in 2004, "A Series of Unfortunate Events" main bad guy is Count Olaf portrayed quite effectively by Jim Carey. In the trailer, however, Jim Carrey was replaced by yet another effectively nefarious Count Olaf, Neil Patrick Harris a host and comedian who played Barney in "How I Met Your Mother."

Neil Patrick Harris As The New Count Olaf

Neil Patrick Harris is the new Count Olaf in "A Series of Unfortunate Events" and he is excited by the new role. As he hasn't seen the 2004 movie and probably hasn't read the book, the storyline was new to him. Count Olaf is a devious criminal who transforms into different characters to acquire the Baudelaire orphans' inheritance. As an actor, Neil adds, portraying different characters is double the fun, but he finds it mentally confusing at the same time.

How Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" Compares to The 2004 Film Adaptation

Netflix's take on "A Series of Unfortunate Events" promises to deliver a more devious yet hilarious extended film that distinguishes itself from the previous adaptation. According to Bustle, the new Netflix original series shows 1950-ish American vibe.

The Baudelaire orphans Violet, Klaus, and Sunny from 2004 and 2017 have similarities especially Violet. The new Klaus now has glasses and wears a coat which makes the character more accurately dressed by the book. The 2004 version of Sunny was the regular infant without definitive style, while the new Sunny now dons a bonnet and looks modern.

Count Olaf is the nefarious antagonist of the Baudelaire orphans in "A Series of Unfortunate Events" played by Jim Carrey and Neil Patrick Harris. Their hilarity are highlighted in the film and in the trailer which gives off a less terrifying Count Olaf.

The Baudelaire orphans in Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" are coming to Netflix this January 13, 2017.
