The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 4 had the fans buzzing all over the internet. The episode titled “Service” have had mixed emotions from the viewers. Some were outraged at Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) submissiveness and at Negan’s continuous torment to Alexandria’s survivors.

In the episode, fans have been both sad and angry about the fact that Rick is taking all of Negan’s constant bullying, and that Daryl has been so broken to the point that he didn’t even want to stay in Alexandria.

With all of the emotions running wild in every fan, it is completely understandable that some may have missed important clues and easter eggs in the episode. The Walking Dead’s showrunners and writers are known for leaving in small easter eggs in every episode.

In “Service”, tons of easter eggs can be find. Here’s a breakdown for those who’ve missed it.

The Godfather

In the episode, the citizens of the Alexandria Safe Zone watched in defeat as the Saviors took their mattresses and cushions. These beds were a sign of comfort, which in the zombie apocalypse isn’t really necessary. This gave Negan and co. the chance to shake things up with the Alexandrians without really endangering Negan’s new “employees”.

Negan’s decision to take the mattresses and burn them - that monster - was a huge nod to the violent world of gangster warfare in The Godfather films.

In The Godfather films, the gangs often used a specific term when it comes to going to war against their rivals. The term was “Going To The Mattresses.” This is a declaration of war, and fans who have read the comic series The Walking Dead know that war is coming.

The Bullet

In one scene, Negan has a handgun pointed at Rick, then pointed it at Daryl (Norman Reedus) just to get a reaction. When he did not get one from both men, Negan decided to shoot a window. Now, a broken window represents a broken society and civilization. Not only that, but the bullet casing fell to ground when Negan fired a shot. This was later found by Rosita, who took the casing and brought it to Eugene so he can make her a bullet.

American Morse Code

In the beginning of the episode, fans can see a huge wall poster in Rick & Michonne’s home that says “America Morse Code”. Fans have speculated that this is a clue hinting that Daryl was sending Rick a message by means of morse code throughout the episode. However, what fans might have missed is that Eugene is actually building what seems to be an electronic device that could potentially be a transmitter to communicate with others by means of morse code.

Water = Life

A lot of people know that water is a symbol of life. In one of Dwight’s scenes with Rosita and Spencer, Dwight ordered the duo to get Daryl’s motorcycle and bring it back. In the process, fans can see Dwight taking Rosita’s canteen and pouring out the water inside. This was not done just to piss off the viewers, it also symbolizes that Alexandria’s survivors is lifeless at this point.

Orange Crush

Fans might remember that in Season 6, Episode 14 titled “Twice as Far” Denise (Merritt Wever) went out with Rosita and Daryl to scavenge medicines and look for “Orange Crush” because Tara (Alanna Masterson), her love interest, was talking about it in her sleep. In Season 7, Episode 4, fans can see Negan drinking the only Orange Crush soda in town.

The Orange Crush is a reminder of the deceased Denise and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). Orange refers to Abraham’s red hair, and crush is a reminder of Sgt. Abe Ford’s crushed head. RIP.

Enid's Balloons

In Season 6, Episode 7 titled “Heads Up”, fans might remember the green balloons used by Enid and Glenn to let Maggie know that everyone’s favorite pizza delivery boy is still alive. In “Service”, fans watched as creepy Davey taunt Enid to beg for her balloons.

7/4

In the scene where Father Gabriel “sneaked up” on Negan, fans can see the numbers 7 & 4 behind Father Gabriel, this signifies the season and episode.

Freshly dug grave

A bit later, Father Gabriel took Negan, Daryl and Rick towards their graveyard where he said Maggie was buried. Everyone knows that this is not true, and fans can see the dirt still on Father Gabriel’s pants.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy

Most fans hate it when Negan recites his nursery rhymes. It just so happens that “Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy” was one of them. In a scene where Negan was chatting with Olivia while Rick looks for the missing guns, fans can see Negan drinking a fresh Lemonade.

"I don't enjoy killing women."

Negan said this line to Olivia. Could this foreshadow a death of a woman character in the hands of Negan in the next few episodes?

Crushed heads

As the Saviors drive away from Alexandria, fans can see a couple of walkers lying on the ground with their heads crushed. This is a reminder of Abraham and Glenn's death.
