Winter is coming, and for every Game of Thrones fan, winter couldn't come soon enough. Thankfully, one of HBO's programming chiefs has confirmed that there have been preliminary ongoing talks about a prequel.

If this happens, this means that Game of Thrones fans would not only get their GOT fix for a few months. There will be additional months and episodes, albeit in a different show.

The author of the Game of Thrones novel series George R.R. Martin has said there is 'no lack of material' when asked about the prequel. It was reported that HBO is moving closer to the prequel based on Martin's "Dunk and Egg" novellas.

In an interview with "Entertainment Weekly's" James Hibberd, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys avoided the specific questions about the show. However, Bloy did confirm that "preliminary ongoing talks" with Martin are underway.

Bloy said, "There are areas we are exploring, but I wouldn't point to anyone and say, 'This is what we're going to do.' " Game of Thrones is set to end with season 8. Could this be when the prequel is coming out?

Martin even talked about Game of Thrones' ending as a motion picture. He was also very open to the idea of a spinoff. "There is certainly no lack of material. Every episode of 'The Naked City' - one of the television shows I watched as a kid - ended with a voice-over: 'There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.' There are eight million stories in Westeros as well . . . and even more in Essos and the lands beyond. A whole world full of stories, waiting to be told . . . if indeed HBO is interested." Martin told EW.

He also added: "The most natural follow-up would be an adaptation of my 'Dunk & Egg' stories. Each of the novellas could easily be done as a two-hour stand-alone movie for television; that would probably be the ideal way to do them, rather than as an ongoing weekly series. 'The Hedge Knight' and its sequels are lighter than 'A Song of Ice and Fire,' more in the realm of action/adventure."

Those who have read the books will know that "Dunk and Egg" stories are set about a hundred years prior to the events of "Ice and Fire". This covers the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall - who would later become one of the Kingsguard - and his squire, "Egg". Egg would later become Aegon V Targaryen of House Targaryen.

Fans are eagerly waiting for news about the prequel, and this is surely a good news.
