“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 Episode 5 was an episode where many sub-storylines took a path of their own without ending in one big conclusion. As tension built up between Jane Vilanueva (Gina Rodriguez) and her grandmother Alba Vilanueva (Ivonne Coll), Michael Cordero Jr. (Brett Dier) and Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) tried to bury the hatchet. Meanwhile, the real Petra Solano (Yael Grobglas) was back, Rogelio De La Vega (Jaime Camil) was casted in a movie and Xiomara Vilanueva (Andrea Navedo) made a life-changing decision.

According to Vulture, in “Jane the Virgin” Season 3 Episode 5, Rogelio finally landed a role in a movie but he would have to go full frontal to play this part. This did not bode well with his bosses at Telemasivo due to the morality clause in his contract. Furthermore, he was worried that his daughter, Jane, would be uncomfortable with this.

On the other hand, Xiomara finally decided to move on from her dream of becoming a singer to a more realistic job. After hearing Rogelio, Jane and Alba sing their own rendition of “Beauty School Dropout”, Xiomara made up her mind to open a dance school.

TV Equals reports that following the three months of being paralyzed by her look-alike, Petra was finally back again in “Jane the Virgin” Season 3 Episode 5 and she was furious at the entire world for failing to notice her absence. She hid this information from Jane because she wanted the Marbella for herself. Despite gradually becoming more down-to-earth in this season, she is now embracing her malicious self and with a vengeance.

On a brighter note, Michael and Rafael have tried to resolve their differences for the sake of keeping the family together. They arrived at this decision after Mateo (Dennis Mencia) had disappeared for a distressing 14 seconds, throwing both men into horror as they thought they had lost him.

Although there have not been much tension between Jane and Alba in Season 3, their relationship took a turn for the worse in “Jane the Virgin” Season 3 Episode 5, according to AV Club. As Jane’s desire to contact her Venezuelan side of the family grew, Alba became increasingly alarmed. Finally, Jane’s abuela could no longer contain her emotions and burst out in anger at Jane. It all made sense when she revealed how her sister, Cecilia Vilanueva (Gina Rodriguez) had destroyed the relationship between Alba and her mother. Alba’s mother passed away refusing to speak to her, making it forever impossible for a reconciliation.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 Episode 5 titled “Chapter Fourty-Nine” was aired on November 14, on The CW.
