This week's episode of the Vampire Diaries starring Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley premieres with an episode entitled "An Eternity of Misery".

The title came from the words uttered by Damon during the pilot episode of the series, which was later explained that it was a promise that Damon gave his brother after they became vampires. After Damon and Stefan were killed, Damon decided to let himself die. On the other hand, Stefan transitioned and realized that he cannot live in a world without his brother so he asked Damon to join him. And Damon did. But the moment Damon tasted human blood, he told his brother that he will spend his life giving Stefan what he deserves which is an eternity of misery.

The episode started with a little girl asking her sister to tell a story. The story was about a village that was built on the same spot where they lay. In this village lives a man named Arcadius but is called Cade by his friends, the man was gentle and respected. Cade has a gift of reading people's minds. In an unlikely turn of events, he was stoned and burned to death in his effort to stop a pedophilia. The girl then asked her sister for a happy story, and the sister replied that it is indeed a happy one because Cade was able to get his revenge.

The story then returns to the present with Ric and Stefan wanting to spend some time with Sybil. In their conversation, Sybil told Ric and Stefan about the story of a girl who lives in a Mediterranean community until the village learned that she possesses some kind of psychic power, which led her to be exiled. During the exile, the girl was also joined by another girl who has psychic power and who would do everything for her sister.

Sybil continued the story and said that when the two girls were hungry, they would curse ships and make them crash against rocks then they would eat the ship's provisions. Sybil continued and said that there were actually no provisions inside the ships because the girls are actually after the sailors, although this was concealed to the other girl.

Later on, Georgie knocked Stefan out, which allowed Sybil to get into Stefen's head to continue with the story. Sybil was the good villager, and the other one girl who would insist that Sybil follow her lifestyle was Seline.

When Stefan has awoken, Sybil asked again who he thinks he is among the two girls, to whom Stefan replied "I'm both". Sybil went on with her story. The moment when the villagers realized what's happening with the sailors, she jumped into a cliff and that's when Aracadius came into the scene. Seline made a pact with him that the two girls will become immortal, although they will have to feed on human flesh to so this. On the other hand, Arcadius will then gather the souls. It was later revealed that Georgie worked for Seline.
