Apple Gives Bundle of Joy to Japan with Lucky Bag Promotion

Japanese are set to get lucky come New Year as Apple plans to launch its Lucky Bag offer on January 2.

According to PC Magazine, Apple launched Lucky Bag in Japan in 2011 and has continued it every year since. The offer requires a customer to walk into a brick and mortar Apple store and pay for a bag. The contents of the bag are not visible to the buyer. However what a user gets is often higher in value compared to what was paid. Last year, the Lucky Bag was sold for $ 345 with some really lucky bags containing Mac iPad Air, Macbook Air and other goodies.

Lucky Bags are part of a tradition called Fukubukuro in Japanese meaning a bag full of goodies. Besides Apple, other retailers also offer goodie bags to customers. The bag price for 2015 is yet to be disclosed, Apple Insider reported. Previous Lucky Bag offers drew massive crowds with long queues outside most Apple stores. This time around, more people are expected to make a beeline for stores given hoping to win of the popular iPhone 6 phones.

The offer is governed by rules including one purchase per day limit, IB Times reported. The goods are not returnable except in case of damage.

Apple's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus exceeded sales expectations in Japan, besides helping the company shore up profits. The Lucky Bag offer is restricted to Japan and customers will have to take what they get.
