After series of inexplicable teasers, the first official trailer for the Masamune Shirow's 1995 classic manga and anime series, "Ghost in the Shell" is finally out with its global launch party in Tokyo.

Longtime fans have been anticipating for the much-awaited live-action adaptation featuring Scarlett Johansson as the cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi or The Major and "Snow White and the Huntsman" (2012) director Rupert Sanders.

"Ghost in the Shell"  is about the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. The human cyborg is going to stop at nothing to stop the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic's advancements in cyber technology. Moreover, The Major herself has a past that augments as a cyborg warrior; and as the trailer for Ghost in the Shell recommends, the Major is compelled to stand up to her history while fighting her most dangerous opponents.

Consequently, the selection of Scarlett Johansson as the lead role in the film has triggered accusations of whitecasting. Director Sanders then defended his choice for the Marvel actress as she has "baked in the cyberpunk aesthetic". "To me it was, you know, I stand by my decision - she's the best actress of her generation and I was flattered and honored that she would be in this film," director Sanders said. "So many people who were around the original anime have been vehemently in support of her because she's incredible and there are very few like her."

Along with the casts are Dr. Ouelet (Juliette Binoche), Batou (Pilou Asbæk), Takeshi Kitano (Chief Daisuke Aramaki), and Chin Han (Togusa) as well as Michael Pitt (Kuze) as the villain. The film will be out in cinemas on March 31, 2017.
