Kate McKinnon opens the Saturday Night Live on a somber note. This is a breath of fresh air since she would normally play a quarreling Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump with Alec Baldwin almost during the whole season of SNL.

The show opens up with McKinnon wearing a cream pantsuit, dressed to look like Hilary Clinton and sang "Hallelujah." Apparently, the show is hitting two birds with one stone as they are tackling the loss of Clinton over Trump in the recently concluded US Presidential election and the death of Leonard Cohen, a singer, and songwriter, which is obvious in McKinnon choice of song.

The song Hallelujah is one of McKinnon most famous song. After the song is complete, McKinnon addressed the camera in these heartwarming words "I'm not giving up, and neither should you." McKinnon also appeared on the "Weekend Update" segment saying "I'm never going to step down now!", and poured a bag of vitamins into his mouth and made jokes of skipping retirement with Trump's victory.

There were no Trump jokes during the show. Interestingly, even Alec Baldwin didn't make an appearance. McKinnon's performance was acclaimed by many. The Twitter world was immediately swept with praises. Richard Roeper, a film critic, even tweeted this to comment on McKinnon "is a superhero with the power to stop us in our tracks."

Last Saturday's show was memorable for SNL as it was their first episode after the US election. SNL was badly criticized before after they invited Trump into the show, which somehow help soften his image. To note, Daniel Feinberg of the Hollywood Reporter said that the show somehow lost its credibility after they allowed Trump to host the show last year. Even the Jimmy Fallon, who hosts the SNL and The Tonight Show, was badly critiqued for treating the candidates humorously.
