Looks like 20th Century Fox is looking to revive its "X-Men" franchise but may well be considering a big change, particularly in its cast for the next sequel. The many challenges like directors quitting, delayed film productions and actors ending contracts are the details Fox has to iron out before it can produce another "X-Men" series.

Previous "X-men" series earnings have been plunging, specifically the most recent "X-Men: The Apocalypse" which earned mere $544 million globally, dropping from $748 million of the previous series "X-Men: Days Of Future Past." Add to that the actors/actress that have already ended their three-picture contracts namely Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, and Michael Fassbender, and if Fox wants to renew the contract, it will be at a price.

Fox has other hurdles to face. The "Wolverine" spinoff series "Logan" to air on March 3 of next year will be the last Hugh Jackman starred movie as the actor is heading for retirement, THR reported. The report added that the movie recently aired its trailer and it has arguably the most views in among "X-Men" franchise series. Further, the film "Gambit" which is another spinoff movie starring Channing Tatum hasn't started filming this year as planned, and Fox lost Doug Liman, the film's director, in August.

Yet another hurdle is the "Deadpool", a surprising box office hit earning $782.6 million. The director reportedly pulled out of the sequel following a conflict with the lead actor Ryan Reynolds last October 22, following the movie's composer Tom Holkenborg. Fox then quickly searched to fill the director's chair, and according to the report, David Leitch of Keanu Reeves' "John Wick" movie is currently in negotiations. But, Fox remains optimistic with the "Deadpool" potential and will be rolling out its third sequel, "Deadpool 3" soon with "X-Force."

According to THR's sources, the "X-Men" franchise will be rebooted with Simon Kinberg working on a new script, overseeing the franchise as a producer and a writer. Another Fox's spin-off "X-Men" franchise is "The New Mutants" which features teen superheroes with crossovers with the flagship "X-Men." Josh Boone will be sitting at the director's chair. He is also the director of "The Fault In Our Stars" and will start filming by spring.
