Netflix "House of Cards" Season 5 had ignited speculations on what will happen to Frank Underwood, or another major character, when it returns airing in 2017.

SPOILERS ALERT: "House of Cards" Season 5 Major Spoilers Ahead

"You lose characters that you love. We almost lost Frank, and I always have faith in the writers that no matter what road we go down, we're going to come back to what the show is," Micheal Kelly, who plays Doug Stumper, the Frank Underwood loyalist, stated to Deadline.

Some seasons ago in House of Cards, Frank Underwood was assassinated and almost died. Kelly referred to that but also referred to something even more deadly for one of the characters in the future, or as early as Season 5.

For the fifth season, there are speculations that a major "House of Cards" character will lose his life and leave the show. The producers have been mum about any clues on which major protagonist will die but senior writers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese will be taking over as showrunners starting Season 5. Beau Willimon, who was in charge the first four seasons, have left the show, according to Sportsrageous.

It could be Frank Underwood facing death again or with Kelly being emotional in the interview it could be Doug Stumper leaving the show. It is said that Frank he will have a bloody death in the hands of someone close to him. Among the many characters of the series, beyond the shadow of doubt, the most suspected character to carry out the murder of Frank Underwood is his trusted aide, Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly).

It is also said that Doug Stamper and Claire may connive with each other, in order to carry out Frank's death as it will also lead to Doug Stamper's rise to the vice presidency, according to Ecumenical News.

House of Cards Season 5 is expected to return by February or March 2017.
