"Microsoft Edge" stands on the top of the list in the recently conducted NSS Labs browser security test. "Microsoft Edge has been found the most secure browsers in Windows 10. Among the list, Microsoft Edge stands top on the list. The test included two more participants and that are Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The test revealed that Google Chrome is more secure browser comparing to Mozilla and provides better security against cyber threats and other unknown attacks.

The report says that in the case of secure browsers, "Microsoft Edge" provides the best protection against phishing attacks and Socially Engineered Malware (SEM). Each browser was tested with more than 5,000 sample malware and 1,000 phishing links and in each case Microsoft Edge did a standalone performance with more than 90 percent result. Surprisingly in the case of Malware, it was blocking almost 99.5 percent of threats and tagged as the most secure browser.

Interestingly, Chrome got over 85 percent in SEM attacks and 82 percent against phishing campaigns. In case of Mozilla, it is found to be 78 percent and 81 percent each on SEM and phishing. It also confirms that those are blocking a majority of the attacks and still be considered as secure browsers.

It should be noted that SEM is a major cyber threat that accounts for almost 33 percent of all the cyber-attacks. Further, these types of attacks are specific and targeting individuals, organizations and government departments, and damaging or stealing sensitive information. Phishing is generally an Email attack to steal the information and in 2016, there were 145,000 phishing attacks were reported. These risks increase the relevancy of secure browsers.

However, the report doesn't change too much the perspective of the secure browsers, as the testing is done in Windows 10 OS. It should be remembered that Microsoft Edge would have better control in its OS platform. Also, Edge is not available in other OS like Chrome OS or Mac OS and hence the test on secure browsers only relevant to Windows 10. Interestingly, Google Chrome claimed that its browser is able to block the attacks in Windows OS due to the recent Bug issue, where Edge failed to block it.
