American Airlines Flight 383 caught fire before takeoff – 20 passengers hospitalized; Who to blame?

Friday afternoon at Chicago O'Hare International Airport when America Airlines flight 383 burst into flames. The plane was bounded to depart Chicago to Miami with 161 passengers on board when the engine caught on fire seconds before take off. One of the passengers recorded to commotion inside the plane as the incident happen.

A video posted on Facebook by Hector Gustavo Cardenas captured the moments inside that plane. You can hear people hysterically screaming and wanting to get out. "Please let us out too," the sound of frightened passengers echoing through the background as they line up to go down the plane's escape chute slides. Cardenas screamed as he goes down the passageway.

Sarah Ahmed, one of the last people to disembark stated that smoke begins to flow into the passenger compartment and windows are catching flames. She said that everyone starts panicking and screaming, going after their bags. "I thought it was the day I was going to die," Ahmed told ABC Chicago.

Ahmed recalls what happened; she mentioned that they were almost up in the air, full throttle when they hear a sudden bang and moments after they see fire on the windows. As soon as passengers saw the fire, people from the right ran and jumped on the other side.

The Federal Aviation Administration explained that the plane had a blown tire, but officials deleted the information. Meanwhile, American Airlines stated the plane halted take off due to an "engine - related mechanical issue." But, a federal officer mentioned that the aircraft had an "uncontained engine failure" that can cause engine parts to break.

Chicago Fire Department Chief Timothy Sampey stated that 20 passengers and a flight attendant suffered minor injuries posed by the rapid evacuation. American Airlines said that they would conduct a special flight for passengers bound to Miami on Friday night.
