James Otis, the man who used a sledgehammer to destroy Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame early this week, stated that he had no regret doing it. Otis stressed that he felt no remorse after he vandalized the real estate mogul's name emblazoned on the star.

"I did it, and I'm very happy I did it, and I'm proud that I did it," Otis was quoted by a KNBC Los Angeles report published on Oct. 27, 2016. Otis added that he was disappointed with Trump for derailing the entire election. He spoke with a "Los Angeles Times" reporter to express his disdain for the reality television star .

Otis, who claimed that he is an heir to the Otis Elevator family, described how he devised a plan before he hammered Trump's star on Oct. 26 morning. He went to the area dressed as a construction worker and placed a barrier around the sidewalk to make the operation more legit. For Otis, his actions are more of "act of civil disobedience" and "freedom of expression."

The Los Angeles Police District filed felony vandalism charges against Otis who shared that he wanted to raise money for the women who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Trump. He planned to auction off the brass nameplate but the Hollywood Walk of Fame took it.

Following the incident, Leron Gubler, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, criticized Otis' actions. He urged Americans to express their anger toward a candidate by voting and not by destroying a property.

Otis said that he is ready to accept the consequences of what he had done and he is willing to go to jail. According to Deadline, the offenses committed by Otis could result to upward of $10,000 in fines and a sentence of up to three years in jail, based on California laws.
