Vatican finally Ok with cremation but they say that you have to keep the ashes off mantel or put it in jewelry. And do not scatter them in the ocean either.

They do not favor cremation because they believe in the resurrection of the body after death. They also believe that our body is a member of the body of Christ and the temple of the holy spirit. But the attitude changed in the recent years.

Cremation has been looked at as a denial of the doctrine, but new teaching recognizes that God is all powerful and cremation is not an issue to our bodily resurrections.

According to Catholic teachings, burying the dead body in a cemetery or other sacred places is to honor the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Vatican also stated that above all, burying the body of the deceased is the most fitting way to express faith and hope in the resurrection of the body.

Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith gives instruction to the people if they want cremation for their deceased family member. The Guidelines for cremation was released last Tuesday, October 25, 2016.

The instruction says,

"It is not permitted to scatter the ashes of the faithful departed in the air, on land, at sea or in some other way, nor may they be preserved in mementos, pieces of jewelry or other objects."

Also, the instruction asks not to divide the ashes among family members. It is better if the ashes stay together at one location. It allows the family to pray and remember the departed.

"When the deceased notoriously has requested cremation and the scattering of their ashes for reasons contrary to the Christian faith, a Christian funeral must be denied to that person according to the norms of the law," read the statement

According to the statement, the Church will deny the funeral rites, if the guidelines are not followed.
