The revamped and beefed up line-up of the Golden State Warriors did not do too well in their season opener against the San Antonio Spurs for the 2016-2017 season.

The 2015 NBA champions added some firepower in their line-up in July, when they signed former Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. For "KD", it was a tough decision that he had to make, as he felt that he needed to move to a new ball club for the sake of his improvement as a professional player.

Durant came out with a post where he said that he'll be missing Oklahoma City and the role that he had played in helping build up his team.

Durant's addition into the team, however, was not able to lead his new team to victory, when the Warriors lost to the Spurs on Tuesday night with a final score of 129-100. The game was held at the Warriors' home court at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.

The game remained close and tied up during the final three minutes of the first quarter, at 18 apiece. The Spurs, however, put on a scoring barrage, via contributions from Patty Mills, veteran Manu Ginobili, and Jonathan Simmons. By the beginning of the second quarter, the Warriors were suddenly down by 11 points, with a score of 31-20.

Through the game's progression, the Spurs only intensified their play, and eventually had their lead balloon further to as much as 17 points. But as former NBA champions, the Warriors did make sure not to let things go out of hand right away when Stephen Curry propelled his team to cut the lead down to eight before the first half ended.

But the Spurs only proved why they continue to be perennial contenders, year after year. Through the heroics of Kawhi Leonard who ended with a career-high 35 points, Gregg Popovich and his men carried on with their momentum to eventually achieve victory.

For his part, Durant ended his first game as a member of the Warriors roster with 27 points and ten rebounds. 2016 MVP Steph Curry, meanwhile, finished the game with 26 points, three rebounds, and four assists.
