You need to be a desensitized television viewer to absorb the gore shown by the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead. The first episode is too painful and brutal to watch but it will also leave you reeling with emotions, pining for a hope of salvation that never happened.

People did not see Glenn's demise coming. His fake-out death in Season 6 was mishandled by the show's creators. But Glenn's gory murder tonight was done with the least dignity you could imagine. It was painful, disgusting and tragic.

When TV Guide reported that it is Glenn who will suffer from Negan's wired bat Lucille, fans did not take it seriously. How could the show's creators let a well-loved character go? People were in denial and oh boy we were all wrong.

It was also sayonara for Abraham who won Negan's random selection. Abraham first tasted the bloody toy Lucille before Glenn's life was claimed. A shot of Glenn's one eye bulging was shown before the zombies ripped him into pieces. It felt unclean and sick to the stomach after seeing that scene.

One scene involved Rick, Negan and Carl. The bad guy Negan tells Rick to chop off his son's arm or the latter's companions will be shot. As Rick proceeds to do the act, Negan stops him. Those sequences were almost Biblical when God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. This time, Negan is not God, but an evil testing a man's conscience.

The show's Season 6 finale was controversial and left viewers in a cliffhanger. Creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman explained in a Rollingstone interview  why they put their fanbase through the wringer. Some people might find the deaths of Glenn and Abraham not worth the wait.

The first episode started with a bang. The deaths will have serious implications on the forthcoming episodes. Expect more blood, so much blood!
