Neil Patrick Harris, the "Smurfs" star who is all set to host the Oscars this year, wants you to give a unique gift to your friends and family this holiday season - ask them to watch him host the Academy Awards!

In the first Oscar trailer of the season, Harris says:

"This holiday season give your family a gift they'll never forget. Instead of traditional presents, give them the gift of simply telling them to watch me host the Oscars."

Harris is seen wearing a classic tuxedo and a festive scarf to go with it as he gives his epic holiday suggestion in his own way.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in October that the "How I Met Your Mother" star had been roped in to host the biggest awards of the year.

"We are thrilled to have Neil host the Oscars. We have known him his entire adult life, and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage. To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage," show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a joint statement.

But Harris had to break the news to his fans his way. He posted a swag video of himself on the phone where he is just heard saying "I'm In" and grinning ear to ear to say "That's Nice" and circles off the last thing on his bucket-list, which also has stuff like "write a book," "Meet the president" and "See a woman in Half" apart from several other things.

But how does Harris actually feel about it?

"It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year's Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true," he said in a statement.

The 87th Academy Awards will be held February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on ABC.
