'Star Wars Episode VIII' is set to be released in 2017 but fans of the franchise are already eager to know one very significant detail, and that is Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parentage. The question about Rey's origins sprung up as soon as Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out.

In a recapped by Cinema Blend, in the first instalment of the new trilogy, Rey was introduced as a scavenger living on the desert planet of Jakku. She was abandoned there as a child not knowing why her family left her there or if they will ever come back for her. If those were the only details to her character, the audience would have surmised that she is just another person in a galaxy far, far away.

But seeing that she also wields the power of the Force some fans theorized that perhaps she is the long-lost daughter of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or possibly a distant relative of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness/Ewan McGregor). Unfortunately, the people behind the franchise are capable of keeping a secret, and so far no one has been able to get any details from the cast or the crew on the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII, until now.

Vulture chatted with Daisy Ridley, who was busy promoting her new film 'The Eagle Huntress,' to ask a few questions about the upcoming 'Star Wars Episode VIII.' The possibility of Rey becoming a Jedi is just one of several questions that numerous fans wonder of saga. But the most persistent question they want answered is "who exactly are Rey's parents?"

According to the same report, Ridley kept a tight lid on the details of Star Wars Episode VIII, but she shared with the interviewer some details. She said that viewers would find out soon enough if Rey is related to any of the Jedi Knights.

One theory that has been popping up lately is that Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), the lead character in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is Rey's mother. Ridley responded that though the theory was interesting it would not be possible at least according to the timeline in the Star Wars universe, according to Inquisitr.

She explained that Jyn Erso would have to be her grandmother because she shares a timeline with Darth Vader who is already Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) grandfather. So possible that Erso is Rey's mom. Although she did not rule it out.

As for Rey's real parents, Daisy Ridley confirmed that everyone will find out when 'Star Wars Episode VIII' comes out in theaters in 2017.
