Hyperloop is a Jetsons-like futuristic transportation concept. Hyperloop is an ultra-fast transportation system that is more efficient than high-speed rail. It is the brainchild of Tesla CEO Elon Musk who presented the concept back in 2013 in a piece of paper.

Elon Musk, according to Daily Mail UK, "proposed a network of elevated tubes to transport specially designed capsules over long distances." He visualized a propulsion system that allows people to travel between San Francisco and Los Angeles in around 30 minutes, a trip that currently takes roughly 6 hours by car. Now, there are 3 Southern California companies building separate test tracks to determine whether the Hyperloop propulsion system works in the real world.

How can Hyperloop change how we live? Business Insider mentions 5 ways how Hyperloop could cause bigger social and economic impact. First, people will become more productive. "The Hyperloop system will cut out a lot of the time consuming parts of traveling," said Hyperloop One's chief technology officer and co-founder to Tech Insider. Second, cargo could help transport freight and port terminals become more productive in transporting cargo. Third, more shoreline could clear shorelines from port terminals. Fourth is outcome could be increased job opportunities. Finally, Hyperloop could give us the time to connect with people who matter the most.

Hyperloop founders are planning to build the first operational tube this 2020. In an interview by CNBC, Sherwin Pishevar, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Hyperloop said, "Hyperloop will be operational, somewhere in the world, by 2020." But, there are skeptics who think that the timeline is ambitious. But, he is undeterred, saying, "Moonshot ideas can happen faster than any other time in history."

Hyperloop is just one of the futuristic technological innovations to watch out for. No one knows exactly how it will shape the future. What matters for now, is that it is an amazing breakthrough that takes transportation to the next, ideally most efficient in all aspects, level.
