The surprise hit of 2014 is back with a vengeance. The first official teaser trailer and poster for "Guardians of the Galaxy VOL 2" was finally released.

Director James Dunn also dropped the first teaser poster for "Guardians of the Galaxy VOL 2" through twitter, Screenrant reported. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the heroes are back, just to let us know that "The galaxy won't save itself". The superhero team remains cool as ever, and our favourite characters are still present. But where's Baby Groot?

At first glance, it seems that Baby Groot is not in the poster but Director James Dunn released a close-up picture of the little guy. It is expected that Groot would play a role in the forthcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy VOL 2."

While the trailer didn't offer much of a plot for "Guardians of the Galaxy VOL 2," it definitely gave clues on what we can expect on the upcoming film. First is that it is still going to be fun. The teaser showed a clip where it showed that spacesuits can be use both for emergency and for fun.

Set two months after the first film, the Guardians of the Galaxy team travel throughout the cosmos and struggle to keep their newfound family together, while helping Peter Quill learn more about his true parentage.

With the release date still relatively far off, it seems Marvel is releasing the teasers to keep fans busy. The appetizer comes in the form of the very first poster for the sequel. It showcased the main players and a tagline that's so simple in keeping with the original film- "Obviously."

While the teaser may not offer an extensive look at the cast, new characters, new threats or ties to the larger Marvel universe some will hope for, the poster showed the right kind of confidence and throwback attitude audiences expect.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel , Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, Laura Haddock and Kurt Russell.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017, in 3D and IMAX.
