PlayStation network and Xbox Live were offline on Christmas Day due to alleged DDOS attacks. A group called Lizard Squad claimed the credit for the takedown. The same group had claimed the credit for attacks made in August on PlayStation Network and online games World of Warcraft and League of Legends.

Status of the 'Xbox Live Core Services' was seen offline at the time of writing this report. PlayStation Network status also showed offline.

In a tweet, PlayStation Store Twitter feed said that some users were having trouble logging into the network and that engineers are investigating.

PlayStation store also experienced inaccessibility earlier this month, and the spells of inaccessibility follow a massive cyberattack on computer systems of Sony Pictures Entertainment that compromised personal information of many employees and hollywood stars. Reportedly, the attack was made over the upcoming release of the movie The Interview.

Sony opted to pull the film initially but later made the movie available to independent theaters on Christmas Day. The Interview can be also purchased and rented online via YouTube and other sites service - including Xbox Live.
