The "SpongeBob Squarepants" was recently rumored to end on October 17, 2016. The rumor also claimed that Nickelodeon cancelled seasons 10 and 11 due to poor showing of episode 9.

"SpongeBob Squarepant"s Cancellation - How Rumor Started

The "SpongeBob Squarepants" cancellation rumor started in the Internet, according to snopes. An image of SpongeBob and a message above it reads that the Bikini Bottom's most annoying resident is officially being cancelled on October 17 after 17 years in Nickelodeon.

The cancellation was prompted by the poor ratings of "SpongeBob Squarepants" season 9. Nickelodeon also cancelled its orders for two more seasons for the same reason. Incidentally, the last episode of season 9 was shown on October 8. The season finale focused on Mr. Krab. His restaurant, the Krusty Krabs was apparently taken away by a storm that swept Bikini Bottom. Krab is facing dilemma on how he could lure back his customers.

"SpongeBob Squarepants" Fans Reaction

The cancellation rumor was met with outrage and sadness from many SpongeBob fans from all over the world. In fact, many were caught by surprise over reports that SpongeBob will no longer show in Nickelodeon this October. There were even reports that two more "SpongeBob Squarepants" seasons are underway which means that series will continue at least until 2019.

"SpongeBob Squarepants" Cancellation Rumor - Not True

Fortunately, the rumor is not true. Nickelodeon spokesperson assured fans that the "SpongeBob Squarepants" will continue to entertain its audience both young and old for quite some time. This is not the first time that a SpongeBob cancellation hoax has come out. An earlier and similar rumor was started almost three years ago.

Nickelodeon Renews "SpongeBob Squarepants" for Two More Seasons

The cancellation rumor has been proven false. This means that reports of Nickelodeon ordering two more "SpongeBob Squarepants" season is probably true, according to morningnewsusa. In fact, season 10 is expected to air its premiere episode on October 10 and its title is "Whirlybrains".
