With most fans holding their breaths for the next season of Attack on Titan, it'll come as a huge relief that we can positively say that the anime will be returning for a second season in the spring of 2017.

The earliest announcement was back in November 2014 which promised a 2016 release. However, it was only recently that any fresh updates became official. You can also check out a cool visual in their home page. The text is in Japanese, though. But you can clearly see Eren and a titan beyond the walls. It's enough to get the hype pumping!

On that note, there have been reports of what to expect for the coming season. Season 2 will of course expound on the mysteries of the previous season. It'll also contain character deaths as the survivors and titans battle it out.

One of the more prominent deaths would be that of Commander Erwin, the 13th commander of the Survey Corps. His most dramatic moment would probably be focusing on saving Eren even at the cost of his own arm. The commander is also shown to be pragmatic, holding Eren important in the fight against the titans because of the latter's uniqueness, being half-human and half-titan.

The details around his death is rumored to be that of sacrifice. Injured, the commander and Eren are in need of a serum to keep him alive. After much consideration, it was unanimously agreed for Eren to take the serum, saving his life and fuelling his determination to fight against the titans in order to honor the commander's sacrifice.

Beyond the drama, though, the mystery of the titans is still at large, and there might be some explanation regarding Eren's father. One of the major goals in the storyline is to get to Eren's basement to find any information regarding their predicament. With Eren holding the key, it's only a matter of time before the story progresses enough to reach that point. Who knows what they'll find there?
