With Pablo Escobar's downfall comes another name to rise in Colombia's drug trade. It has been known for quite a while that the godfathers of The Cali Cartel may come as central figures for "Narcos" Season 3.

Fans will not witness a character-focused storyline but how teams work to penetrate systems in the government. In "Narcos" Season 3, discrepancies in documents which holds the Colombian government will also reveal how certain officials with wrong intentions acquire power and money through corruption and notorious businesses.

After Pablo Escobar was ceased in "Narcos" Season 2, the stage went immediately to The Cali Cartel. Gamenguide notes that in order for the drug trade to continue its operation in Colombia after the death of Pablo Escobar, the godfathers worked hard enough to sink into the government's allies.

There's a mention of Los Pepes' return in "Narcos" Season 3. It was in HNGN's report that this possible angle was revealed. It said that Los Pepe's role was very crucial in hunting down the Medelin cartel, most especially Escobar. Speculations say that the Colombian government restored Los Pepes so they can pin down some of the most notorious drug lords which were involved and found out during Escobar's hunt operations.

These rumors, though, still remain unofficial. Producers of the show have not disclosed anything about Los Pepes just yet. However, Executive Producer Eric Newman already disclosed an important detail. The Hollywood Reporter posted the transcription of their interview with Newman and revealed that The Cali Cartel played an important role in pinning down Escobar. But they just did it so they can rise up as the highest drug traders in Colombia at the time. To quote Newman, "Pablo was protected by the people who loved him and Cali was protected by a political and economic system that they had rather ingeniously built. It's a different kind of villain. While Escobar was a single-cell organism, [The Cali Cartel was] a complex, multi-celled organism."
