Microsoft's latest update for Xbox allows players that are part of the Preview scheme to join daily tournaments. It will start with support for the Killer Instinct game, and is now in the process of hosting daily tournaments for the fighting game.

This specific update, named Arena, is due to eventually support more games. However, its possible usefulness is truly something to look forward to. The traditional way of scouring forums online to even find partners is no longer going to be so much of an issue. With the test run, all one has to do is register in the Tournament Tab of the Killer Instinct Game Hub.

Mashable also reports that the feature's first partner will be EA, which gives us the idea of what batch of games will eventually be added. Games like Battlefield and FIFA come to mind, of course.

The effects of such an update will have great pull once it's fully out. With how much easier to participate in online eSports events thanks to the update, Microsoft can probably expect an increase of gamer activity in the competitive scene. And not just of competitive players, too, but also casual ones looking to whet their skill online, or simply have fun.

For now, only those invited to the Xbox One Preview Program will be able to test it. Still, it's a good prospect to atract more console players to the competitive scene. For now, those on the outside can only wait until it passes this specific testing phase, and may even be able to contribute down the line.

This new update, along with the LFG (Looking for Group) updates and even the group messaging on Xbox Live, will all just serve to make it easier for the community to get together and engage each other more thoroughly in the backdrop of the eSports scene.
