Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama is going to get a new anime season! The announcement was made in this year's 43rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump according to Anime News Network.

The magazine also teased that the anime will feature the climax to the final story arc. More details and the broadcasting schedule will be announced in the upcoming issues. However, the anime is reported to come after Gintama's live action film, which is set to premiere in 2017, as reported by Crunchyroll. The live action film was announced in the Weekly Shounen Jump's 31st issue for this year.

Epicstream reports that the cast of Yorozuya has also been announced as well. Shun Oguri has been cast to play Gin, the lazy, white-perm samurai. Masaki Suda will play Shinpachi, the glasses character. Finally, Kanna Hashimoto will play Kagura, a member of the Yato tribe and the third member of the trio.

Gintama's manga started way back in 2004, and continues to be one of the top-ranking manga in Japan. It inspired a television series in 2006 which continued (despite several extended hiatuses) until the latest season in 2015. It has also inspired 2 anime films as well as OVAs and event anime.

The story is set in a world where feudal Japan is taken over ... by aliens. Called Amanto, these aliens banned the possession of swords and displaced the role of samurai in society. It all starts when Shinpachi gets saved by Gin... and then framed?

Sounds too serious? Don't worry, it won't stay that way for long. Packed with gags, tearjerking scenes, plot twists, and fast-paced fights, Gintama will have you laughing, shouting, and crying, sometimes all at the same time. And for an anime that never takes itself seriously, it has some pretty deep messages as well. It's not difficult to see why it's one of the top ranked manga in Japan.
