The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Tyler Thigpen after losing rookie, Johnny Manziel to a hamstring injury. The status of the Browns' veteran quarterback, Brian Hoyer, who has shoulder and bicep problems, is currently up in the air.

"I just know he is very sore today and the day after is usually very difficult," head coach, Mike Pettine said in regards to Hoyer's injury reported by CBS DFW. "Time is going to heal it, but we'll let it die down and quiet down enough for him to be available on Sunday."

According to Jason La Canfora with CBSSports.com, if Hoyer cannot play in the final game next week against the Baltimore Ravens, Thigpen will be the second choice after the undrafted rookie, Connor Shaw. Shaw has been on the team's practice squad this season. As a starter for the South Carolina Gamecocks, Shaw was 27-5 with 6,074 yards and a total of 56 touchdowns.

"He's been outstanding for us all year. He's done everything that we've asked. He's not the biggest guy. He's not the fastest guy. He's not the strongest guy, but he just found a way to be productive and I think that his strength lies in competitiveness," Pettine said about Shaw. "He's a guy that I wouldn't be surprised if he does have to play that he goes out there and plays well. He showed flashes of it in the preseason and it wouldn't come as a surprise because of what type of kid he is."

Thigpen played with the Browns during the preseason. He was cut on Aug.12. The last time Thigpen made a start was in 2010 with the Dolphins. He has not made an appearance since 2012 when he was with the Buffalo Bills.

Manziel was injured toward the end of the second quarter during Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers. He completed three of eight passes for 32 yards before going down. Pettine stated that Manziel's injury would take weeks to heal.

The Browns announced that they have waived fullback Ray Agnew.
