Ghost Rider may have suffered a not-so-welcome fate during the character's tenure in the movies, but ABC is set to redeem the character by including the skull-faced hero in the upcoming fourth season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

According to listings for the show, the season's pilot episode is aptly titled "The Ghost," which would mean that Ghost Rider might be involved heavily at the onset.

Veering away from Nicholas Cage's portrayal of the character, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will be using the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider. This move is also intended to mirror the current status quo of the said hero in the comic books.

In the comics, the Punisher released Johnny Blaze from his bond with the Spirit of Vengeance, prompting the latter to live a normal life as a human. Later on, the Spirit introduced itself to Robbie, who bound its essence into the vehicle he won in a street race. Robbie uses his newfound powers to serve as a hero in his community, mopping up local gangs and killers along the way.

Newcomer Gabriel Luna has been tapped to play Robbie in the show.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jed Whedon told EW, "As always, we are going to put our own spin on the character. We are staying true to the comics in the places where we feel like it is really important-we love the character's family dynamic and the East L.A. kid in him."

Just how full-on magical we're going to get, even with a person literally possessed by a ghost, remains to be seen, though. Thor's inclusion in the Avengers team has already prompted some explanation for how the mystical meets the scientific in the MCU, and executive producer Marissa Tancharoen told EW, "Our team will definitely be trying to science this guy with the flaming skull."

Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns on ABC on Tuesday, September 20th.
