People who have a habit of using their smartphone before sleeping should beware. According to a new study, using smartphone just before sleep can lead to transient vision loss, leading to temporary blindness.

These are the findings of a new study conducted by a team of researchers who relied on a small group of patients and a few tests to come up with the conclusion. The researchers have cautioned against the use of cell phone before hitting the bed at night.

The research team claims to have found at least two women who confess experiencing temporary blindness because of their smartphone use. The condition called transient smartphone blindness can last anywhere between a few minutes to an hour.

Even though the condition lasts for only a small duration of time, the researchers say that it might prove harmful in the long run. The temporary blindness caused by cell phone use can affect the optimum functionality of the eyes of the patient in question.

The use of smartphone after turning off the lights at night is becoming quite common. People take their cell phones to the bed and continue using them, without realizing the impact that its use in darkness have on the eyes.

The researchers cautioned people who sleep next to their smartphones at night. In fact, the device is the first thing that they like to check out in the morning, even before their eyes get used to the natural daylight outside. Such prolonged use of the device can affect the eyes and lead to temporary blindness.

The two women that the researchers used as subjects in the study included a 22-year-old English woman, who confessed staring at her cell phone for a long period of time before finally dozing off at night. The other patient, also claimed to have experienced temporary blindness when she woke up before sunrise and directly checked her phone.
