‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8, News Update: Elena or Katherine? Who Will Nina Dobrev Reprise

Fans of 'The Vampire Diaries' are eagerly waiting for Season 8 and of all the things, what they want most is the return of Nina Dobrev, one of the mainstays of the show, who commands a huge fan following. And the good news is that she is returning.

According to reports, there are strong chances that the actress will make a cameo appearance before the show comes to an end. Even producer Julie Plec has said that she is confident of Nina's return in the final season. So, it makes perfect sense for her fans to stay hopeful.

However, it is not clear whether she will return as Elena or Katherine. Although speculations and guesses favor the former, the possibility of latter cannot be ruled out altogether. The former rests on the theory that Bonnie will sacrifice herself, forcing Elena to wake up from her slumber and she will come back to save Damon and Enzo.

As for the latter, many feel that Bonnie is too strong a character to do that and thus, Dobrev can only come back as Katherine. Well, whatever the avatar, fans will be delighted to see her sharing screen with Ian Somerhalder aka Damon, even if it is for one last time. After all, the on-screen couple have been a major hit with the viewers and their chemistry is surely the stuff classic TV love stories are made of.

Notably, Nina called it quits after the sixth season, following her breakup with Ian (they were also dating off-screen). But she never admitted that their break-up was the reason behind her leaving the show. And ever since her departure, the show has registered a fall in ratings.

Fans have been missing the duo and now that the eighth season is in the offing, their hopes have been revived. Well, looks like their wish will be fulfilled as many are saying that this will be the last season of the show.

It is worth mentioning here that Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham (Bonnie) have already announced that they are exiting the show after season 8.
