The Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton called out all of the fans who cheered when Johnny Manziel was injured during this Sunday's game, stating that the act was "classless."

''I was saddened to see the crowd's response to when he got hurt,'' Newton said according to Yahoo! Sports. ''It was classless. Anytime when a person gets hurt you don't celebrate. I have had that done in my career and it just takes the integrity out of the game.''

He added, ''For the crowd to respond in that sort of way - we're better than that."

Manziel and Newton have been friends for a few years. In an earlier press conference, Manziel stated that he looks up to Newton and is very thankful for all of the support that Netwon gives him.

Manziel started the game for the Cleveland Browns but had to be taken out when he hurt his hamstring at 1:49 left in the second quarter. The rookie was tackled by Luke Kuechly and Colin Jones. Manziel, who stayed in his uniform, watched the game from the bench.

"I don't know the severity of it,'' coach Mike Pettine commented according to Cleveland.com. He added that Manziel could have returned to the game if needed, "But he would not have been mobile. We probably would have had to hand it off or just catch it and throw it. . .[The hamstring] had really stiffened up on him."

Manziel stated, "Got up and just felt a little tight in my hamstring. As I was trying to go down for that next play, I got up after the hit, felt fine, shoulders feel good, head feels good, just took a hit. I was ready to hop back in, ready to go, just stood up and felt like I was cramping. As I kept walking more and more it just felt like something I hadn't experienced before and figured I needed to get it checked out. Pretty frustrating."

Prior to the injury, Manziel completed 3 of 8 passes for 32 yards. He ran twice for three yards. Hoyer came in and threw one touchdown pass for 81-yards in the second half, which was the longest play for the Browns this season. However, the Panthers' offense led by Newton responded and the Browns fell by 17-13.

"We go out there and can't really get anything going and it's disappointing,'' said Hoyer. "You take the lead in the fourth quarter. You're hoping you play it out and get another score and really seal the deal and we weren't able to do that.''

Hoyer went 7 of 13 for134 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

"I want to go out and play for my teammates and do whatever it takes to win,'' he said. "I don't know what will happen going forward, but we still have a chance of going 8-8 and to go .500. I'm going to do whatever I can whether I'm playing, whether playing, whatever it is.

The Browns have been eliminated from the playoffs.
