Ask any 'Game of Thrones' fan about the Night's Watch and they will tell you how much of awe and inspiration, it evokes in their mind and heart.

However, the current season has made lots of fans question their beliefs as everyone in the HBO show universe seems to have forgotten the first command of the Watch. According to it, once a man joins it, he can never leave. If he does, he has to face punishment which is death by beheading.

Season 1 gave us a good view of the same when Lord Ned Stark beheaded a deserter in the very first episode. The deserter failed to keep the famous oath, which calls for living and dying at the post itself. It ordains every guard to keep away from wearing crowns and winning glories. It reminds him that he is the shield that guards the realms of men and commands him to pledge his life and honor for all the nights of his life.

But the words sound a tad hollow when seen in the context of Lord Commander Jon Snow, who is not only vying for glory but also seems to have made up his mind to desert the post forever. Season 6 showed him walking away, saying his watch has ended, after Melisandre resurrected him. Well, you might say that he died once and the death freed him from the famous oath.

But this fact is not known to all the characters in the show universe. It is only privy to the viewers and those that served under his commandership at the Night's Watch. Still, neither Lord Glover nor Lady Mormont questioned him when he went to them in the current season, along with Sansa and Ser Davos, to rally support of the North against Ramsay Bolton.

None asked him about breaking his oath and deserting the Watch. Isn't that a little difficult to digest? What do the producers want us to believe? They sent a raven all around Westeros to convey his death and the consequent resurrection. Viewers may not buy it HBO.
