Facebook continues to loose a percentage of its teenage users, along with other age groups, says a recent report published by Frank N. Magid Associates.

According to the report, Facebook is loosing teenage users with ages 13 and 17 in the United States. The number has plunged from 95% in 2012 to 88% in 2014.

However, this is not the only bad news for Facebook. The social media network giant is loosing users in other age groups as well. The report found out that popularity of Facebook declined by a total 3 percent from 2012.

The report added that teenage users have started to prefer other social networking sites such as Instagram. Instagram was acquired by Facebook for $1 billion in 2012, which is now valued at $35 billion.

In October 2013, Facebook acknowledged the loss in teenage user group. According to experts, teenage user group is significant for Facebook to keep up with the advertising revenue.

The Magid survey further revealed that 18 percent of the teenage users use Snapchat, 17 percent iMessage, 9 percent WhatsApp and 9 percent or more are sticking with Google Hangouts.

However, the most widely-used instant messaging application remains Facebook Messenger, which has 40 percent of the surveyed teenage users.

According to the survey, 16 per cent said Facebook was trendy, 18 per cent found it fun and 16 per cent said it was informative. Just nine percent of the surveyed users believed Facebook was safe.

The survey considered 1,934 people with smartphones.
